check for rotor wear on both sides - is it nice and smooth or bumpy?
I have had sticking calipers that were not going full pressure on the outer sides of the rotor and the result was always rusty/bumper rotor
- to free it up - and I don't recommend this unless you like risk and want to save a few dollars - I removed the pad on which the caliper was sticking - I then wedged in something that would give me enough leverage to push the piston back in (a long handled screw driver will do the trick but sure you don't damage the piston or the seals), then I pushed down on the pedal - this caused the piston to unstick. I leveraged the piston back in and repeated the process about 10 times. The idea is to get the piston to move beyond the point where rust is a cause of friction.
Now comes the tricky part - the rotor was sticking because the piston probably had just the slightest rust from lack of use. So I raised the lip of the outer boot protecting the piston from the elements - just enough to pump in some PB blaster using a wand - I put in quite a bit so that the Blaster would flow into the piston area and all around. This has worked wonders and the brakes are back to normal.
Now I can't say what effect the pb blaster has on the seals, how long the fix lasts or if it has any side effects - but it does seem to have worked for the last several weeks.
