Gas Fumes

I have a 1993 900 automatic. Car's been running great. Filled the gas tank the other night and the next morning the garage smelled like gas fumes. Drove the car and the interior also smelled like fumes, and it hasn't gone away. Looked under car and the gas tank looks "damp", sort of in wet-looking streaks, not really wet to the touch, and is not dripping. Does this sounds as if the tank was overfilled? Or more like a leak in the tank somewhere? About 2 months ago had the fuel pump replaced--could this be related? Whatever your theories on what might be wrong, could you estimate cost of parts and labor? I want to feel knowledgable before I visit the mechanic. Do you think a regular trustworthy auto repair place could fix this issue? The Saab mechanic lives far away and I'd like to have the work done locally. And, is the car safe to drive? Thank you for your help.
