Drive when cold...don't let the guy warm it up for you.

Two major issues...steering and automatic trans.
If the trans slips when cold or rpm goes above 2400-2600 when held against the brake (don't try this for more than 5-10 seconds) the trans is going. You can generally expect 100-150K from the BW37 AT IF you change the trans fluid every 30K...and chances are the owner didn't.
Steering racks get old, people don't flush them, they leak or get cruddy and hesitate.
Both of the above accentuated when cold. If you notice problems, adjust the price accordingly. Figure $2K for a rebuilt trans...and chances are you'll end up doing the connecting rod/main bearings and engine seals, O-ring/oil pump at the same time if not a harmonic balancer....last time it cost me around $4K (but I've since gotten 10 years and 100K out of it on my 87 900T, I also did the rings). Probably $5-6K today. New rebuilt rack installed is probably around $750-1000 with today's labor rate. You might do it yourself for what, $250 for a rebuilt rack? Last time I did it was $140 for the rack and it took me 3-4 hours.
Lastly, check the convertible top, $2K for a new top as good as the factory.
