The '93 engine will work fine in your car. 210 is healthy. If you are madly in love with your Saab and want it to run forever and ever, then the 2.1L is not as durable as the earlier motors. That's not to say they won't go a long long while, it's just that the B212 cyl bores I've seen don't seem to have worn as well as the 2.0L motors I've seen. The small bump in power/tq is nice, though.

Use all of the electronics from your '89; you do not need anything from the '93, except use the injectors from it.

You will need to install the '89 throttle on the '93 intake because your '89 uses a different throttle switch and it won't bolt onto the '93 throttle.

Regardings Saana88's comments:

Both the 1989 2.0 and 91+ 2.1 NA motors run 19# injectors and a 3.0 bar fuel regulator from the factory. They use the same crank sensor; he will continue to use the '89 air mass meter. The ECU can easily compensate for the small differences between the engines (as an example, I run a Volvo 2.3L 8V Turbo ECU in a 2.1L 16V turbocharged Saab engine: the car runs well and passes emissions easily).

The one-year-only '89 NA coil will not affect the install/operation of the 2.1L motor.

It's probably not a bad idea to start with fresh crank seals, plus oil pump seal, plus fresh water pump, plus fresh alt. bushings, plus exh. manifold gasket before you put the new one in.

Come to think of it, if you are going to use the '93 exh. manifold I'm inclined to think you need a 4-bolt cat from either a 16V Turbo or 91+ NA, which also means a new mid-pipe. Not being up on my NA stuff as I should be, it may be that if you use the 2.0L exh. manifold, you lose some of the benefit of the 2.1L exh. manifold, which may be a better design cuz it's, you know, newer -- I'm not sure, though.
