88 spg . I had the fuel fittings at the fuel filter repaired . one banjo fitting was welded and the other was replaced . new washers were put in . a day after the repair it had just rained for about 12 hours . after it stopped raining and dried out some I checked the car and smelled a faint gas smell . upon checking the fittings I had a couple of drops of gas smelling liquid on my finger . 2 days later and there is no gas smell and the fittings are dry with no liquid or gas smell on my fingers . I assumed that there was still a very slight leak , but now I'm not sure . is it possible that the leak was sealed after the repair , but a small amount of rain water which had washed gas residue (from when the lines were opened )had left a couple of drops of gas infused water at the fitting ? or would this have evaporated in the few hours without rain because of the gas residue ? most of the car and surroundings were dry , but there was a little water here and there . the rain had begun a few hours after the repair was completed . it was about 60 degrees outside . is another scenario more likely ? that in which there was still a leak at a metal sealing washer after the repair , but the leak sealed up from vibration at the fitting as I drove the car for a couple of days ( shifting the 2 metal pieces against each other so a tiny gap was closed ? any other ideas ?
