Once you get the turbo piping off, and the clutch cover off, Have a friend depress the clutch and insert the spacer ring (or equivalent), BEFORE you disconnect the hose to the slave cylinder. Otherwise you are pretty well screwed - depressing the clutch pressure plate is extremely difficult to do manually (I removed mine by cutting a perfectly good slave cylinder in half with a SAWZALL.
You will need to remove the slave, pressure plate, and clutch as a single unit in order to properly separate the engine from the transmission - and it is also an excellent time to replace the rear main seal (on the new engine.
