I would be surprised if the tripod bearing wasn't trashed, but you never know until you look. At 60mph I would bet the tripod bearing, the inner boot and the lower A arm are in need of replacement. The other part is the inner driver, the cup that the tripod bearing sits in. We just hurt two of them at the latest Lemons race at speed, my brother's unit detailed below was also damaged and it was a backing up speed.
As to the A arm, if you got a *new* replacement and not a *used* replacement then you should be ok. We got a *used* replacement (and nothing wrong with that generally) for my brothers car, and two years later it did the backing up and broke thing... I started laughing, his car is a 1990 and we replaced the upper, lower, and knuckle all with used, as the previous owner had hit a curb at speed and bent all of them, sold the car to us because the repair at the dealer (doing it "by the book") was expensive, supposed to remove the engine to do the drivers side upper A arm (we knew a different way)... Anyway it should not have broken on a 1990 but since it was a *used* replacement we figured it was from a 1987ish model. If your guy is a welder he most likely will clean the area with a high speed wire brush or grinder and be able to see the area that needs some help. Still don't have pictures, sorry!
