air recirculation closes the flap under the lovers on the hood, stops outside air from coming in and sends inside air back thru the heat exchanger to get it colder faster. also keeps the smoke or exhaust fumes from getting inside the car. leave it open for fresh air. put the button on fresh air, turn your fans to the large arrow (speed 4), let it idle and go outside, (close the doors and windows) and go to the vents on the C pillar and put your hand next to it, you should feel air escaping the car, close the recirc and repeat you should feel less air.
ALSO- if your AC works and you get rained upon... get in the car and run both AC and Heat to dry off, it's magic! Unfortunately only works with manual settings, the 9000 with temp settings cycles heat and cold to reach a the set temp, the c900 you can run them both, the AC will chill the water out of the air, and the heat keeps it from getting too cold, exactly what computer room airconditioners do to keep the humidity at the setting (oh they can *add* water too!).
