you need a compression gage. it has to be able to fit down into the plug well and screw into the spark pug hole (some won't)
then remove all plugs. I think you should also remove the main erlay from the Bosch engine management system (but check your Bentley...mine's not near by)
screw the tester into plug 1 (by the firewall). then sit in the seat, floor the gas, and crank it so it goes "unh unh unh unh uhn--roughly 5 times. be consistent -- same for each cylinder. floor the gas to open the throttel all the way. do teh same exact thing for each hole, otehrwise the trest results will be less useful.
repeat for #2, 3, 4.
write down the figures. they should be within 10% o9f each otehr (135-150 is good, `120-160 is not)
engine is ideally warm.
a "wet" test -- squirt about a teaspoon of motor oil into the cylinder and retry the test. idea is the oil should seal the rings, sometimes it does sometimes the result is about the same.
