John, yeah, there are others out here that will take this risk. I watch myself and what I'm driving into; once I drove this way for a few days I just got used to applying much more pressure for all stops.

I can't see that the greater force could harm anything, the brake pedal and its pivot points are really robust.

I pulled one used booster but failed to test it till I got it out, found out it leaked vacuum. Went back a week or so ago and got another; luckily, car I pulled if from had been heavily stripped, dash, steering wheel, cluster, front seats all out of it, so it came out quick and easy.

Now I need to wirebrush and sand rust off the new one and paint it up, then install it. I find I'm not very motivated sometimes.

The thing I wonder is, how common is it for these to fail? Car's an '89, I pulled this from an '87. No boosters in ABS cars and most cars in junkyards now are ABS.

The new booster had a lot of water in it; not sure if it builds up in there out of engine vapor over the years or if it leaked in from rain while it sat half apart in the junkyard. Someone else posted on here about finding water in a booster; what's up?

Curiosity: Saab attaches booster to firewall with four M8 aircraft-type nuts with nylon inserts, a pain to unscrew. But booster has a mounting flange; THAT's attached to the booster with four M8 studs and those have plain nuts and washers on them.

When I install it to the body I'm going to steal the regular nuts off the flange of the bad booster and use them - - spin on quick and then tighten down. If the flange to body nuts were in any danger of loosening, wouldn't the booster to flange nuts be in the same danger?
