Live and learn. :-)
I almost toasted my 1994 Dodge truck with similar stupidity. The HVAC fan stopped working so I pulled the lower dash apart to see what was amiss. I pulled the motor and saw that it had gotten gummed up over time. I took it out, cleaned it and sprayed some WD-40 on it. Then I connected it back to the wiring harness just dangling from under the dash and fired it up. It was turning, but real slow. So what did this idiot do... sprayed a running electric motor hanging from the dash of my truck with more WD-40. Fwoosh!! My impressionable 6-year-old was "helping" daddy at the time. He got a big kick out of the whole spectacle of course--flames... dad freaking out... general mayhem. Occasionally while I'm working on another car he chimes in with the obligatory; "remember when you lit your truck on fire?". Which is of course followed by nervous laughter on my part.
Glad your OK. Remember kids, an electrical charge and petrolium-based products in an open-air environment don't mix.
