its true saabs have a tendency to leak but they don't have to - mine don't any more after replacing main seal, oil pump o ring, distributor o ring and valve cover gasket over several years

I also found that as engine is angled that it leaked a bit at the block and tranmission gasket at the front - my AT always leaked more than my manual - not sure why.

- some eg distributor - are associated with a burning smell after they hit the downpipe so that should provide a clue

could be an oil leak from your valve cover rear (front is rear) main seal or even the distributor- you need to do some tracing after a power wash under the engine area or at least wipe clean the underside and follow the path of the leak

put a piece of cardboard under the leak and see how much you are losing - probably not a lot

watch the level of all fluids and see which is dropping

there are tracing fluids that can be seen in uv that can be bought at a FLAPS if you are so inclined


then decide if the leak is large or annoying enough to fix

distributor and valve cover leaks are easily remedied others less so but sometimes worth it - eg oil pump o ring and main seal as they entail checking other important components - eg harmonic balancer, timing chain and front chains
which can wear
