Good morning,
I'm currently stranded in Illinois with what's turned out to be a fairly severe issue with my 87 Saab 900T. I noticed a little bit of erratic boosting - the boost measuring deep into the red accompanied by a slightly odd turbo noise... Runaway boost almost. I had issues on the highway and began to struggle to keep the car over 50 mph - with the boost shooting too high and preventing further acceleration.
Unplugging the APC solenoid slightly assisted and made the car much more drivable. Boost was down of course back to lower levels and although slightly down on power, I was able to maintain highway speeds without an issue. After sitting in a bit of traffic however, the car began to struggle severely. Issues arose keeping the speed above 45-50mph and the car began overheating. The engine did not seem to want to rev past 2300-2500 RPM. I guessed that perhaps the cat was plugged but after disconnecting the cat & headers and taking a brief (and very loud) test drive down the road, the problem was the same and I concluded that the cat had absolutely nothing to do with it.
The problem has been somewhat intermittent. From time to time, it will regain power but then it tends to revert back to where it was before - with no power, unable to rev, overheating and struggling to get past 45mph.
Would appreciate any advice you guys might have. I'm currently 700 miles from home and without a decent garage to work in so... Trying to scramble to find a solution.
