i have had a distributor come loose, and rotate on it's own, causing similar probs. i have also have a rotor fail as mentioned in previous thread. there is also one extra possibility-the vac advance capsule on the side of the distributor has come loose and allowed the little tab inside to become disconnected, thus allowing retard to run wild. kind of tricky to check if it is still connected inside, but at least obvious from the outside.
read this linked-thread to help understand retard/too much boost/too little power relationship.
things it is not:
apc box/solenoid/knock sensor. all would give more boost if failed in the right/wrong way, but in normal situations you would have lots more power, not less.
spark plugs or wires: these would causing missing and bucking, neither of which have been described.
fuel pump: never responsible for too much boost (shame!)
turbocharger: lots of boost makes lots of power, if the timing is set correctly.
LH 2.4 does not retard timing. the vac capsule does that under boost.
in fact, the LH 2.4 system has no control over timing. it is set by manually rotating the distributor, just like the good old days!
please feel free to call on my cell for further assistance (509) 670 0263
good luck, Nick
