I took the driver side door hinges on my 93 900S Sedan apart today. Here's what I found:
1. JCWhitney hinge pin kit did not fit the Saab hinges. The pins were either too large or too small. The Saab has metric sized pins, the JCWhitney kit is all english size. I'll sell on ebay if I can't get a refund. Also, there are no sleeves, just the hinge pieces and pin.
2. Hinges weren't worn to the point of needing replacement. The upper pin was partly unseated. I greased both upper and lower and reassembled.
3. Most of the loose feeling is in the spring/holder mechanism in the upper hinge.
4. I believe the problem is slight misalignment due to body sag. I realigned the door using the upper door/hinge bolts (10mm).
The door closes much better now although I can see the slight misalignment with the rear door and the hood. Not really noticeable unless you know. I haven't tested it for leaks but it will likely rain later today so we'll see.
Tips - Don't bother disconnecting the electrical, there's enough slack in the wiring that you can access and remove the hinges without disconnecting the wires. You'll need something to rest to door on since there isn't enough slack for the door to sit on the ground. On the upper hinge, just compress the detent spring with a set of vice grips. I was able to release the pin/hinge parts without disassembling the spring mechanism this way.
