Aftermarket pump design error Posted by Landjet [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Bentley 1993 edition page 234-12?, Landjet ![]() ![]() |
During a hillbilly replacement of the fuel pump, one of the Unreal McCoys put in an aftermarket ( not the REAL McCoy ) fuel pump. The orientation of the keepers for the fuel lines force you to put the pump in 180 degrees off.
The PO's bodyshop did the hillbilly repair and added sand and dirt to the o-ring to make sure it would slip in the joint, then just slattered a tube of silicone on the top of the pump. No wonder it smelled like pump gas in the car.
The moral of the story is......don't buy the crap aftermarket pump.....
OH, by the way boyz and girlz, when looking forward, the electrical connector is supposed to be to the RIGHT. Otherwise, the ejector at the bottom of the pump has no where to pick up fuel when the tank is extremely low. I just added 10 miles to my range.......
