yes, many changes in oil over the years. However, Mobil-1 came out about 1979 or so as an over the counter product. I saw it at the dealer where I purchased my Toyota, which was mainly a Chevy dealer, they also sold Corvettes?

Years before the above I had read with interest in popular mechanics and other similar trade pubs about the ester and diester of synthetic oils and saw pictures of the jello under the valve covers in a large Detroit V-8 (may even have been a Rocket!) and then after running the synthetic for some number of miles... the same valve cover removed and looked as new! Long before Mobil-1 on the shelf...

I raced 2 stroke dirt bikes in the seventies in the high desert, and mixing oil with gas was a requirement AND a black art... too much dino oil and you fouled the plug and your engine stopped running (usually in the middle of the high desert at 115 degrees, in a race was bad, not in a race was worse!), too little oil and you ran too hot and without enough lubrication... you seized which caused mechanical issues and costs... as well as a breakdown as above...

Oh, daytime average temperature, humidity, and altitude all had to be factored into this... basically it was a drain on the fun time! We tried Bean oil (Caster Bean oil) sweet smell, clean buring with the *correct* mix (which was variable and never seemed to be the same), and all of the brands too.

One day a buddy introduced me to Golden Spectral synthetic oil. 12 oz in 5 gallons of gas... the other variables just didn't matter. Less oil than we used dino style and it didn't seize, plugs were good to go.. It *was* magic. So I read up more on synthetic oils.

So, when Mobil-1 was available *over the counter* and not mail order (not knocking Amsoil, just it was what it was...) I put it into my Toyota Celica Supra (first year of the Supra - used Cresida 4M straight six) and after the following miles on my cars... 105+190+384+272+170+190+35 (wife's car totaled in 1987) plus all of my other didn't purchased new cars.... all using Mobil-1 and *no failures* in the engine (other than headgaskets where were almost always an easy cause -> effect overheat-> headgasket) no oil related failures, no bearings, cranks, piston or rings. None.

Back in 1985 when I purchasee my 1985 900T 5s 4 door (which I later traded for my 1992 9000CDT and even later found out was a rare model!) I read the owners manual and it said either 10-30 engine oil in the transmission or transmission oil. So I've been using Mobil-1 in the c900 manual transmissions since 1985. Recommended oil changes for the engine *used* to be 7500 for the NA and 3750 for the turbo and that is with the larger oil filter too. So I did a transmission change occasionally, the owners manual didn't have a reccommended interval...

That's my very long story, and I'm sticking to it! ha ha ha
