thanks for the lesson on wd-40 and being sued (still trying to put that together with the discussion). It's a San Diego Company, I live in San Diego, and the -40 part came from.... the 40th attempt... hence wd-40. It was created for the US Government, under contract. I used it in 1968 when I was in Japan in Generic packaging - no blue and yellow at all... To clean and protect parts, not to lubricate them. My recomendation is to *clean* the parts and *not* to use carb cleaner or brake cleaner as those melt the plastic insides and allow air leaks via the plastic electrical connector on the top of the unit.
now back to the point at hand, this is not a lubed part, it runs on an armature, and if it needed external lubrication it would be a maintenance item. The only reason we clean them is that they are dirty and stick, not that they require lubrication, and lubrication attracts.... dirt.
Hopefully Boeing won't get sued because Boeshield, which I am sure is a fine product, doesn't say "Saab AIC lubricator" on it? LOL
Cleaning is the issue, it sticks because it's dirty, as you said "sticky".
