Yes, that's the area where the row of snaps is installed. The only issue I could see with that is that you'd have to reseat it every time you opened the trunk. The snaps along there keep the boot taught. There is velcro on the opposite side, just behind the seat.
On my Lebaron, there is a molding on the car and a long hook strip sewn to the boot. The hook strip goes on the molding at the rear and then you stretch the boot taught to hook it on the molding just behind the seat. I'm sure the same could be done with the saab boot. Just install a molding along the drip chanel where the row of snaps are now. Or perhaps even modify the black decor strip along the back of the convertible top to accept a hook-style molding. The snaps are the biggest PITA of getting the soft boot on and off. The sides are the complicated part. If I recall, there are black plastic pieces sewn in that you just slip in under the spoiler side pieces to keep the boot from flapping in the wind. If there was a way to get the sides to clip in and be taught, you'd really have something.
