1979-1993 & 94 Conv [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
I've been researching getting a new top for the 1992 900s convertible i've purchased.
It's in very good condition all in all just needs some minor touches and one major one... a new top.
It seems the window is ok, not sure about the interior liner or the locking top motor. but i do know the canvas is beyond repair. (i put the top down manually the day i bought it and left the boot on since)
I've gotten the car to the point i need to fix the top since there's not much else left to do.
My questions still unanswered after searching:
I see everyone leans for the german top, and it seems to price in the $700 range for the full package with top, glass, i assume inner liner and the needed parts to install? (i need black to match btw)
Which companies to you recommend buying from? I see hydro e lectric (sp?) top cover, and some other name.
How much time, difficulty and expertise to do this properly? (specialty tools? I have all usual shop tools but none seem logical for fabric work)
I looked for the instructions that are out there and they don't seem to come up they are in adobe reader or something and my computer just goes to a blank screen (I'm computer "slow" at times)
Also, I have less than 400 dollars in this car including tags and title so I'd like to keep it cheap but do it the best I can for the dollars I have. The car is worth the new top I just don't have deep pockets or loads of time. So if I'm going to be doing this I want to do it once and also as best as possible.
Does this seem correct? If not point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.
btw. I'm going to be looking into the mechanic's of the top this week I hope, Any things I should look out for on this model top?
