actually if you have an air gun or battery opperated impact driver that does a great job. If the shaft spins on taking it out, and you are *sure* the ones coming out are trash, you can snap a set of visegrips on the shaft and have a buddy hold that end.
The cool special tool is for the rears and there are two different type, depends upon the brand of shock you are removing, one type (I think the Boge Blue ones) has a keyed top, think of a circle that the top 10% and bottom 10% have been cut off (like a map of the world cut off and a line above and one below the equator... clear as mud? you put your box wrench on the nut, then this socket is keyed for the top of the shaft, put a breaker bar to hold it, and loosed tne jam nuts. The other type is a hex in the top of the shaft, standard metric hex. I purchased that other keyed think after having to cut the shafts on the rears on my first go around... not wrench would work, vise grips either...
