Can I really successfully swap my own transmission? Abs Posted by dave24 [Email] (#457) [Profile/Gallery] (more from dave24) on Tue, 2 Sep 2008 04:02:47 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Yesterday, after nearly 2 months of tinkering with swapping the 5 speed in my 87 900T project car, I got to turn the key and… it started on the first turn. I’m telling you this because, 1. it actually started, ran well and (almost) everything worked, 2. my wife now thinks I’m some kind of Saab god, and 3. and most important, is tell others that, with the help of the many experts on this Board, your Bentley, lots of reading, and getting dirty, you can successfully tackle projects like this.
Besides swapping the 5 speed with a known good one, I also replaced the clutch and all related parts, harmonic balancer, water pump, rear and front main seals, various gaskets, alternator and power steering bushings, heat shield, a few ball joints, an axle and one wheel bearing (and maybe a few other things I’ve forgotten).
So don’t fear jobs like this. You can do it.
