There are some things that can be made to work, but it's not easy. The basic block and head are the same, but it is by no means a drop-in (it would be easier to just buy a 9000 motor if you needed one).
As for the alternator, 1) the 9000 alt is likely a larger capacity than the 900, 2) the 9000 uses a serpentine, multi-groove belt vs the two "V" belts the 900 uses, 3) there may be some specific mounting differences, where the "ears" on one won't mate up to the correct spot.
On the good side, wheels will work on either...
