US car? Posted by Larry West [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Pre-Wiring for Speakers in a 1986 Three-Door?, DietrichOS ![]() |
If so, there probably ARE speakers in the back, on either side of the parcel shelf. And they've destroyed themselves over the years.
I have a 1990 900 hatch (base model), which was my Sister's for 15 years, and one of the rear speakers worked some of the time when I got the car.
In 2006, I pulled the stock stereo, replacing it with an Alpine that I can plug my iPod into. I also installed a pair of Boston Acoustics 6.5" two-way speakers in the side panels of the rear seat, driven by a 50 Watt per channel Crutchfield Amp (which is nearly as old as the car!), and also a Kenwood small, self-contained subwoofer under the driver seat. The last "upgrade" I made was to install a pair of Saab Factory front speakers in the car that I got at the Jubilee in Sweden last year.
I recommend going with something like what I installed. The sound is much better than you'll ever get from installing speakers in teh factory spots in the back.
Pic of my speaker installation.
