Side edges of convertible top...

I will try to explain this as best I can:
The side edges of the canvas for the convertible top (the edges directly above both side windows) have a stitched hem that is open on the inside. Are these edges supposed to be tucked under the metal side rails that fold in half when lowering the top? The edges on mine just lay on top of these rails.
The reason I ask is because I have an incredible amount of wind noise coming into the cabin. I have tried adjusting the windows and that did not help. I can also push my hand in under these edges from the outside and be able to push through all the way to the cabin inside. This is where the excessive wind noise is coming from.
I have watched how the top folds when going up or down, and have wondered whether these edges are supposed to be tucked under those split metal rails since I assume the canvas would fold along with the rails. Doing so would definitely cut down on the wind noise, as well as tighten the side edges of the top itself. I just don't want to do something that might make the canvas split if these edges are not supposed to be tucked under these rails.
