Wanted to share my hard shifting issues with my '91 SPG.
Had difficulty shifting into 1st 2nd 3rd gear the last few months and was dreading the worst, the big tranny swap.
So this week I was preparing my '87 I have as a parts car to do a tranny swap. I was draining fluid on the parts car and was taking the dash apart.
When I noticed that the shifter in the parts car had the three small screws that hold the shifterball in place had come loose a bit... IDEA !!
Walked outside with the T25 bit and pulled the leather gaitor on the SPG. Wiggled the shifter around and played with the gears. It was loose too !! I could give them at least 2 turns for them to be tight again but figured some lock type washers and a drop of blue loctite would benefit so pulled it apart and put it together with the added washers and loctite.
Pulled the gaitor back on, torn a nail, damn! But immediately went out for a test drive....
Smooth as silk I tell ya !!
Why do we always fear the worst when sometimes it's the simple stuff?!
Happy SAABing!
