Hello again...so I've been working on repairing the driver's front jackpoint area and wanted some opinions:
When I bought the car, that front corner area of the floor was in pretty bad shape, so a yankee mechanic friend of mine cut out the bad stuff and welded in this super thick metal plate.
Its ugly as hell, but is very strong, as I tested jacking up the car several times and it doesn't flex or move or anything so thats good.
There were two small holes in the wheel well area that I sprayed with Zinc Phosphate and POR-15'ed it, then sealed it up with sheetmetal and such etc. There is one other part I have to do where the metal plate meets the rocker seam. I could go on but my aim is to just stop it from rusting further and seal up the area.
My Question is (sorry long post):
I've read stuff in the archives about how all the structural integrity for the frame is in those beams in the center of the car, the edges aren't much of a factor, etc.
Is this really true? do I have to worry about anything if I continue down the path of sealing up the area and not welding the crap out of everything.
Thanks....don't want to get dinged for inspection I love this car!
