I don't have the exact year by year comparison with me (the SPG did change, and was usually a year or two ahead of the regular model), but generally the springs are tighter and lower, the APC is hotter giving a bit more HP, when to the mitsubishi turbo earlier, and the body panels are on it. And of course there is the I have an SPG feeling too. You can put after market springs on it, you can tune the engine with modded APC injectors fuel chip and more to exceed the stock SPG value, and you could do all of this to the SPG as well. You could put the body panels on the non-SPG, but they do weigh a bit (but look kinda nice too!).

So what's happening? you have a choice between getting one or the other???

If it were me I'd pick with the following items in order. NO rust car, best mechanical condition engine and transmission, best exterior, best interior condition, best price, best extra equipment, best overall package - true to the stock items etc, last.

Rust *never* sleeps, major transmission work is expensive - engine less but if you can get a good one do it, body work and paint can be done however I can't do it - original Saab paint will clean up and look new if undamaged, head liner and seats and all that can be repaired or replaced if needed and you can drive the car while waiting for those items to show up somewhere, price is nice saves money for other add ins/ons repairs, you can *always* bolt stuff on the car, if you are trying to restore an SPG then you want it (or any car you are restoring) to have as much of that items that make that model special there and in the best shape too stock etc etc.

But others may have additional decision points, would like to see what I overlooked?
