so we did a minor flame on this before. Here is my opinion, and some facts too. The AIC has a plastic connector at the top. It should *not* pass air other than the two hose connectors. Take your AIC out and put your thumb on one port and then blow into the other (think trumpet) and it should be air tight. If it is airtight you are good, if it is not you will have a "hunting" idle event if the AIC is clean and working properly. Carb Cleaner, Brake Cleaner, and even Electronics clean will all melt plastic (this was ranked from worst to best). Since we can't get or use Freon-TF anymore (great cleaner, evaporated with no residue, cleaned well, but bad for the Ozone...) you must use something else. I prefer WD-40, or PB Blaster, or a similar product. Not as much instant gratification of watching stuff melt off, but then again that is good because it doesn't eat plastic. So it might take overnight to work, or a couple of applications. Another product is the degreaser that is sold at Costco, it does a good job too. Basically you want the metal bit inside the AIC to rotate back and forth without any sticking. Get it there and you have finished.
We got into BD contest about whether WD-40 was a lube or not, the AIC does not need lube, it's not a maintenance item. Was always recommending the product to loosen the crud and flush it away, no more and no less.
Let us know how it goes.
