More for the archives. Car is a '93 900TC. 100K on the factory sensor.
I read all the old posts about taking out the headlight or pulling the exhaust elbow .. and broken studs in the process!
I was a wuss and got the proper sensor from Euro with the right connectors rather than fool around with splicing a cheap one. Also got the O2 sensor spanner from them.
The Euro spanner will not fit a 900T 16V sensor as there is a shoulder on the exhaust elbow that gets in the way. So much for that idea.
Sprayed pentrating oil and MAPP gas blowtorch at the ready.
Second try was a 7/8 deep socket 3/8 drive (after cutting the harness).
No way to get much torque on it. Eying the headlamp removal.
Picked up a 7/8 12 point 1/2 inch drive deep craftsman socket. I have a long 1/2 in drive ratchet from craftsman with a knuckle. That combination works nicely and you can get plenty of leverage. No heat needed just two hands on maybe a 15 inch handle. No way you can do it without a knuckle. The car body gets in the way.
Best way I found to get the new one in was a 22 mm ring spanner used backwards with care not to twist up the cable too much.
Not so easy, but not as bad as some of the reports. I think the bottom line is don't fool around with 3/8 drive sockets for anything much over 14 mm! You aren't going to get far with an 8 inch long ratchet either on this job.
