HI Buckmath!
There are three wires on the Alternator that are important.
Thick may be red - goes to alternator, shares terminal that goes round to the battery - if it's not on even if the alternator is doing it's thing the go juice never gets to the battery...
White or Yellow - this goes to the battery light on in the idiot light section - if you turn the key to run but not start and your battery icon does not light... either this wire is disconnected OR the bulb in the dash (a very *special* value one...) is burned out or missing - result is the same, the alternator does not charge...
Small black (or a Large one if someone did the upgrade!) is the ground wire for the alternator, no ground no charge, stock mount is to the 12 mm head bolt on the top of the diamond shaped mount for the alternator, under the 12mm head bolt that also holds down the lower mount for the AC compressor bracket. known weak point, suggest you source another ground strap and replace, I like to go from the lower ground terminal on the alternator below the fat red wire, to one of the two bolts on the rear bracket for the starter, directly onto the block and out of the way - other implementations use a bolt on the AC compressor - either way highly suggested.
