I just had a new windshield installed in my 93, and was involved with the installers to make sure there was no corrosion in the frame. According to the installer, there should be no sealer whatsoever, and that it should be installed dry. That would mean that your gasket is in good condition and can be trusted to keep out the elements. The gasket is set up with some weep holes for condensation to drain out -- according to the installer, if those holes are compromised, then you would have problems with the frame as the water would have nowhere to go. I tend to believe this technician, so if that is not the case, please make corrections to this post.
