I used to use the big ones, but these little ones will fit in the links and allow you to set the chain on the chain wheel. I like that. So I have a "duty coathanger" that I've cut and bent to length and shape to reach through and grap the chain. Both work well.
Another mentioned ziplock bags and a sharpie to write on them, highly recommended, and a Digital camera (and take about 4x the number of pictures you think you need... trust me on this...).
on the ziplock bags, my wife thought I was crazy until she realized I was not robbing her stock of new ones in the kitchen *anymore*. every time we empty a ziplock that had something in it I turn it inside out except the last inch or so, and put a hand inside it like a glove, and put dish soap on it and wash my "hands" and any crud under running water, cleans the bag, stand it open side up to dry, and it goes into my stash in the garage in the top of the tool box ( I put them all inside one for fast finding later).
