Still trying to track down that fuel smell/leak. I see wetness on the driver's side of the gas tank near the strap, but can't be sure yet if it's a cracked tank or a bad O-ring to the fuel pump.
I was digging around today. The pic here shows some wetness, though it didn't really stink of gasoline. I had the car running and didn't see a puddle on top of the fuel pump.
However, while I had the car running and was looking underneath, the car stopped running after a bit. I looked to see what happened, and one of the fuel pump valves (the one on the 'north' side) had popped out of the fuel pump and sprayed gas in my trunk. I popped it back in easily and the car ran again.
So I suppose my question is, that staining around the fuel pump in the picture, even though it didn't really smell like gas -- is that significant? (Though now that the pump sprayed fuel in my trunk, the inside of the car really reeks). I felt around the gas tank from under the car, as high as I could get my hand, but didn't feel any cracks.
