I've had to replace the fuel pump in two of the 1992 900's that I've had. They use a Walbro pump instead of a Bosch, a much smaller and less effective design, in my opinion. The aftermarket Walbro pump is larger in diameter, and you usually have to cut the rubber donut with 3 legs that holds the old pump to get it out, thus destroying it. The solution I came up with was to buy a plumbing fitting at Orchard Supply that is used to join pipes of dissimilar diameters. It is labeled PROFLEX P/N 3001-215. "2" CL, PL or ST to 1 1/2" Copper or 1 1/4" PL". It is stainless steel tube with two hose clamps attached, and an inner rubber sleeve that changes diameter halfway. After carefully cutting off the inner flange with a utility knife, the smaller ID fits perfectly over the pump and the larger ID fits perfectly over the fitting on the pump assembly. To handle the issue of a filter screen, I got some fine stainless steel screen and secured it to the bottom of the pump with a BIG zip tie, although a hose clamp could work also. It's a pretty low cost, effective solution. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. I have an extra sleeve if anyone wants me to send it. -Tras
