The townsendimports suggestion is to get the socket on the nut with breaker bar and then hit the starter briefly. This spins the engine in correct direction to break the bolt loose. Remove socket, should spin the rest of the way out with fingers.
Then only need to hold flywheel still on reinstall. To do that I clamped a long-nose 7" Vise-Grips onto the flywheel and pressure plate, after removing the top plastic flywheel cover. At battery side, jammed against the tranny bell housing. Held it very well, bolt still tight four years later.
If you do the starter trick, don't keep cranking, as it will run the bolt out and jam the socket and breaker into the firewall. I had to reverse my ratchet and re-tighten the bolt quite a way till I could get the socket off.
