a lazy sensor is more of an issue with CIS than jetronic which can adapt more quickly - it may even have a limp home mode...

you can test them by putting in bench vise and applying the falme on the tip with a small blow torch - it will burn off all the crud - should rise to .9 or so volts when torch is passed over and then drop quickly. The sensor - even a lazy one can compensate for a system that is slighly out of tune - too rich or too lean but it can only do so much...

if you want to test the ability of your system to adapt if you think it is out of spec - put an AA battery in line with sensor connection and ground it. Should cause engine to run rich. Then create a small vacuum leak causing the engine to lean out - in both cases if your meters are within spec it should be able to come back into spec by adjusting the rpms higher or lower.


As I said before if you are running lean due to a vacuum leak of unmetered air the O2 sensor will send a rich signal....
