An interesting question has arisen in a thread downstream: What is the nature of coolant flow through the heater core in c900s-- serpentine and unbranched, or branched with feeder arteries serving cross-connections?
The question arises because of a third report of uneven heat distribution across the core (e.g., DS cold, PS hot or, in my case, DS hot, PS cold). I had pulled the core after identifying the difference, flushed it and boiled it out, got easy flow-through and reinstalled but all my efforts were wasted, same problem.
Regrettably, I didn't take the time when it was out to inspect the route of coolant through the core, I was 100% confident that it was a serpentine path among the aluminum dissipation fins, but given free-flow through the unit but uneven heat distribution, I have to conclude it's the latter (i.e., branched at one or more points and, in my case, one of the branch points that feeds coolant to the PS fins is blocked) which makes repair by 'rodding-out' seem much less likely to succeed.
Anyone have experience/guidance in this area?
