I picked up the check valve at the local Saab dealership. I decided, since it was the feed line, to try and fit the valve to the plastic fuel line.
I secured the line in a tool meant to make flare joints in pipe and gently tapped (make that whapped) it into the line. The trick was to expose only enough of the fuel line to tap it to the next barb on the valve. Once the first barb was in the hose, I'd stop and adjust the tool holding the hose to allow enough room to tap it to the next barb. Both the check valve and the hose are tough stuff and it's a really tight fit. Tested it out today and the leak and gasoline odor are gone. Filled up with gas pretty certain that my mileage would improve. The trouble I was having with excessive cranking time to start was also resolved as the old check valve was faulty.
The only valve produced by Saab is the feed (pressure) valve. It turned out that my pump was labeled so replacement was straightforward. I was told that to use it on the return side, that all I needed to do was to remove the check valve. If you decide to do this, make certain to know which valve you're replacing. Placing the supply check valve in the return side of the pump would slow down, if not block the circulation of fuel back to the tank.
Again, thanks to everyone who responded. Your reposnses and post posts really helped make this simple.
