Our 1993 900S sedan has heated seats for both the driver + passenger.
Just to clarify, the driver's heater has a switch on the dash with 3 heat settings. The passenger seat is not controlled by that switch (completely independent). It is "always on" but has a pressure switch + thermostat to keep it off when nobody is there or it's too warm out.
I believe this is the norm, at least for the newer cars (parents' '89 900s is identical). When working, in my experience, these heaters really work well, and you can definitely feel it! some passengers have been annoyed by the inability to turn off the bum toaster... That said, other lighter passengers (eg my wife) have been annoyed that it wouldn't turn on for them... Seems our driver's seat heater failed this year so I'll have to fix it when things warm up... I rarely use it anyway...
cheers,
James...
