I have called bad repair jobs being done by "gravel monkeys"......now I know why. I had a smell that lingered no matter what I tightened, and checked....turns out that the fuel pump had been replaced, and they just threw it in without cleaning out the surface that the O ring sits in, and there were small chunks of gravel where the O ring was supposed to seat. Once I cleaned it out, and put the fuel pump back, there was no more scent of petrol.
