Last month I had one injector leaking on a 1989 900S. After replacing the O-rings I had TWO leaking injectors. All leaks made spreading damp areas on the intake runners at idle.
It was easy to tell the leaks were NOT from the upper O-ring seal on the fuel rail. The fuel seemed to be wicking up onto the intake runners from near the lower O-ring seal. Removed all injectors. On the leakers, I could twist the lower metal cylindrical part of the injector while holding the injector body stationary. (That lower part was about the diameter of a pencil, the inside of it was cone shaped.)
That tells me it was the injector itself that was leaking. In fact, leaking lower O-rings (air seals) would allow air to enter alongside the injector and possibly draw the leaking fuel directly into the intake before it had a chance to dampen the exterior of the manifold. The new O-rings might have just revealed the real problem in all its glory.
Hope this info helps.
