Don,
In my experience that's sort of classic for a bad clutch master cylinder but it can be any of the clutch hydraulic components including the line between the master and slave. If you have air in the system it can act worse when cold as well. If you have been able to "pump up" clutch operation recently on warm days then that's further evidence of bad seals in the master. You can't typically pump up a bad slave. The inside of the rubber hose that's between the master and slave (a combination steel pipe/rubber hose assembly) will break down and swell as it ages, kind of undetectable from the outside, but it causes sluggish movement of the fluid. If your hose/pipe is old or original consider replacing it when you fix the problem. These clutch masters seem to give excellent service when rebuilt so consider just buying the kit and saving some money. Bleeding the system backwards with a little pressure has always worked best for me. Good luck
