I'm sure with the off-set cog that drives the distributor, an VW 009/aftermarket or very early 010 or 025 model will work on a CIS model Saab. The lenght of the shaft on the camshaft drive distributors look the same except that their F.I. Not sure about the length on the CIS. I don't even know if the distributor is on the cam-shaft of the CIS. I do know that if you were to carburetor a Saab engine with a Weber carb set up, the full centrifugal advance distributor would be a screaming combo. On my 91/900s, the distributor is nothing more than a cap and rotor. The pick-up sensor is underneath the harmonic balancer and the spark advance is all electronic. When I had a few speed beetles, the best combo was a 50's/60's carb, with manifold adapter plate, that was fully adjustable with the venturies and jets and a distributor(025) from a 59/VW van with 25hp. I removed the weaker advancement spring and adjusted the advancement spring post, with spring, so the total advancement came in at 36 degrees B.T.D.C. Most of the stock distributors were slow to advance due to low HP engines. The 60's offered a super blue coil/distributor set-up.
