Boiling water, a teaspoon or so at a time, will even work in bitter cold to unthaw a frozen lockworks that has say frozen coffee in it. And will clear some of the sugar and other things out. When it's cold (it cools off really quickly) sop out the water with a napkin and try again with more hot water.

(I guess black coffee would even work!)

Run key in and out and wipe its grooves clean every time. And put it through full turning action. MANY times.

Then follow water with rubbing alcohol, to clear water out so the lock doesn't just freeze back up again. Ditto, more key inserting, wiping, reinserting and working lock thru its paces.

Then sop the alcohol out, and blow the lockworks clean if you can get some compressed air. Another option is to stick a piece of rubber hose right over the ignition and blow into other end.

Then maybe some 3 in 1, or lock ease, or whatever. Locksmiths will die if you talk about lubing a lock, they are supposed to not need lubing, and oil can stiffen to grease, and then to wax and then to glue consistency over time, and also attract and hold dirt.

But since you can always clean it again and it probably needs something, go ahead.

Be really careful, sticking ignition can also lead to making starter stay running, and that will ruin the starter. So a smooth acting ignition is insurance against other trouble.
