The problem is on the 900 head and gasket is that there are casting ports that have the head gasket covering them. The waters directly blocked by the head gasket and after high mileage these area become breached. This happened on my 91/900s. The leak only allowed the oil to get into the coolant. I did find that the head material corroded where the breach happened and you need to JB-Weld the area of corrosion takes place. Don't allow this to contaminate the rubber coolant hoses too long as the rubber will swell from the oil. I had to remove all the coolant hoses an wash them thoroughly of oil that accumulated on the inside.. I failed to do the JB-Weld and will have to do the head gasket job over again. The next time I'll be getting a rebuilt head from Clearwater Cylinderheads for the job. Only because of the high mileage. Luck might be with you on just tightening the head bolts. Just keep an eye on the coolant for increased oil contamination.
