Hi,
take the AIC valve off, it's either an 8mm or 7mm (or a 1/4" if someone put american clamps on it...) and disconnect as you already did.
get a small screwdriver and go in through the side port and see if you can move the little piece inside. you can also shake it like a polaroid and see if it rattles, rattling is good, not rattling is bad. Anyway most likely the sides are gummed up. So spray with WD-40 or PB Blaster, try to fill the inside of it, figure out how to either prop it up on the bench or something, or perhaps get a cork from a wine bottle and carve to fit (this just came to me so it may or may not work...). You want to soak the insides and leave it for several hours, or move it back and forth to make sure all of the insides are getting equal time...
There have been several thread about whether using carb cleaner or brake cleaner is ok. I say that it's not, because... there is plastic inside the AIC valve. Put your thumb over one opening and blow on the other opening, it should not allow air to pass. If it *does* allow air to pass I bet it's coming out of the plastic surround at the electrical connector. You want another AIC if this is true. Carb cleaner and brake cleaner will melt plastic, killing the unit. Others have said that they follow the carb/brake cleaner with WD-40 or something else to neutralize that... Just use WD-40 or PB Blaster, it takes longer but is safer on the plastic.
Oh, also a thread about lubing the AIC. It should not be lubed, it's not a maintenance item, it needs to be cleaned... There is also some degreaser that Costco sold (haven't seen it there recently) that is not petroleum based, more powerful than simple green, and if I get some more of it (white plastic gallon jug with orangish label, they include a spray bottle too) I will try that next time.
that you want to have happen is that the rotating center of the AIC will move freely again, it may take some persuasion with the screw driver to get it to rotate and accept more cleaner, but you should be able to get it to rattle...
then see how it goes.
