If you have the basic tools and the interest you can definitely do it. You'll need an engine hoist, a Bentley manual and this discussion board. Two of my C900s have transplanted engines. I removed and put them in myself in the driveway. It's basically just a bunch of little small steps. I found this site useful the first time I removed an engine.

Save your 900!! I've found used Saabs engines to be plentiful on the "list of kraig's" and for not much money.
future tip not found in the literature: make a couple guide pins (saw off the heads of a couple long bolts). Screw them into the transmission flange, it makes lowering the donor engine onto the transmission a lot easier.
