"Sometimes", after changing the alt. brushes the electrical system/bushes may that a few mile to set to the contour of the armature/brushes due to the rounding edges of the bushes and wear to the armature. On a resent post I pointed out to use a finger-nail file and chamfer the out-side edges of the bushes about 1/8" to assist with the bush face contacting squarely against the armature. Either way people choose to do this repair. It's great that it doesn't require disassembly of the alternator and it's internal componants. There is a armature cleaning stone that recondition the plates of the armature, but you would have to remove and disassemble the unit. A compressed air supply nozzle is another thing to use to blast the old conductive carbon bush dust from the armature grooves/alternator unit. Good to park on a surface where you can recover dropped tiny screws.
