I have been in a high idle for the first 300 miles on my new eng. I'm getting 75 RPMs from the vac tank in the pass fender well and the another 75 from the pcv.
Problem is I'm not sure how to fix it. I figured it out by hooking up my timing gun to RPM mode. Then started pinching airlines till I saw a drop. I started working on the vac tank first because I thought it would be easy. Afraid not. Turns out, there is a small thin rubber "gasket" in the cap that split. Not sure where to find a new one. It's so thin I can make another. I tried. How important is this tank? Do I have to have it? For that matter what does it do? Seems to have a spring valve that opens and closes, but for what? The power steering? I’d think not. My cc is pulled out along with the a/c system. So again, do I have to have it?
The pcv is another problem. I'm thinking the 75 RPM's I'm getting from the valve cover may be normal and I need to keep looking for another source of a leak. I will say if I pinch both vac line with vise grips the eng will drop to 840 to 850. Right where it's suppose to be.
What do you guys think?
Thanks
Tim
